Associate And Bachelors Admissions

Associate And Bachelor's Admissions Then, when I’ve finished, I go back and read my own insights. However, my reading material has changed since elementary school. No force on earth could keep me from books, and I hope that my breakthrough withLes Miserablesis just one of many. I want to spend the rest of my life becoming a better reader, and just maybe, becoming a better person because of it. This is a perfectly acceptable way to read books for fun, but it is not way to enjoy a truly great novel. When I undertook the task ofLes MiserablesI thought that I had prepared myself. I loved tracing out the shapes and letters, turning the pages, pretending Icouldread. The only thing I didn’t like about books was when people would read them out loud . They talked about what the quickest way to memorize is and what is going to be in the test to memorize. Consequently, my interest and passion in other things only brought me loneliness in learning. For example, the piece “t zero” is one of my favorites. This short story is about a hunter, Qfwfq, who has just fired an arrow at a lion. When I finally learned to read, my love of books only increased. In elementary school I could always be found with a book in my hand. I read books about pioneers, astronauts, ordinary kids doing extraordinary things. I wasn’t quite able to read the original, so I was forced to resort to the “No fear Shakespeare” version. The lion leaps at the hunter, and in that second the hunter can’t tell if the arrow will miss or not. He has a 50/50 chance of killing the lion or being killed by the lion. The hunter then considers the possibility of remaining frozen in time in this moment of uncertainty forever, where every possible outcome could still happen, but hasn’t happened yet. The hunter spends the rest of the story thinking through all the possible ramifications that come with choosing to exist only within a single second. He refers to this moment as “t zero,” where t is time, and the moment he is experiencing is point zero. I appreciate nonfiction more than I did as a child. Ever since I took my first philosophy course, when I am seen with a book in my hands it is a philosophical work. In my opinion, Ludwig Wittgenstein beats William Shakespeare any day. Sometimes the difficulty makes reading the book more rewarding. There is nothing more satisfying than finally understanding a passage I couldn’t understand before. Then, in eighth grade I was introduced to annotations. At first I thought they were tedious and annoying, but given time, I grew to appreciate the exercise. Now, instead of tiring our ears, I work away pencils, marking when I find something powerful, noting my thoughts in the margins of the pages. The book took me a full two weeks to finish, the longest it has ever taken me to finish a book in my life. And this experience opened up a whole new side of reading for me. Discussion, for me, is a natural part of the reading process. The written word isn’t meant to be a solitary thing; it’s meant to be shared. For a long time, I bombarded my family with a constant but ever changing stream of chatter on my book of choice. Lack of love causes loneliness, and I think the reason I have been lonely in pursuit of learning is because of a lack of love from the people who love what “I love”. What I considered important was different from what my school considered important as all their interest goes into exams. I had already read two different unabridged versions and done some research. I know it took some people years to finish, but I was dedicated. It wasn’t until I realized that the main character was first mentioned nearly eight pages in that my traditional reading style wasn’t going to work. I slowed downâ€"It wasn’t like I was racing anyoneâ€"and tried to hear every characters voice, hear the nuances of the words, and imagine how it would sound aloud.

What If My College Admissions Essay Is Too Short?

What If My College Admissions Essay Is Too Short? I had thought that my job as the reader was to peel back the layers of beautiful imagery to reveal the novel’s and Humbert’s grotesque center. I wanted to brush off the proselike dust off an old book. I had thought that the truth was beneath this, like a mystery waiting to be solved. So, in a way, The Master and Margarita has helped me to understand my father and appreciate him as an outsider, an individualist. I have also become an individualist who tries to defy the conformism around him. I live in a newly independent society that still has remnants of the old, Soviet conformism, and, instead of freeing itself, it has begun to bury itself in it. The obsession with following narrow dreams that I see in my peers is part of today’s conformism. He has always encouraged me to have my own personal outlook and opinion. I think he believes that conformity undermines intellectual potentialâ€"an opinion I now strongly agree with. Moreover, he has taught me to stand my ground and be perceptive. The critical viewpoint I have grown into has trained me not to take things for granted and to be inquisitive. I first began reading Pan Tadeusz when I was thirteen. And perhaps because it was my decision to read this epic, my reaction to it was stronger than it otherwise would have been. Until then, being Polish meant little more to me than having a second passport, wearing a traditional dress on holidays, and having a passel of cousins across the ocean. Being Polish was a part of me, but not something I paid much attention to. It is a book of perpetual discussion, conversation, and questioning. My initial impression was that the truth of Lolita, its ugliness, was hidden behind its beautiful prose. It uses flowery words of love and affection to trick the reader into believing in some kind of horrid love story. Then, how does one interpret morality in relation to beauty? They weigh so heavily on each other that it is impossible for them to existence independently. There is no way to read Lolita and believe one has at last found the truth of Dolores and Humbert’s story. Most distinctly I remember running to the bathroom, chapter after chapter, to throw up. It was all at once a beautiful and harrowing experience. Much like an individual doesn’t realize how hungry she is until she takes a bite of food, my intellectual hunger rose and demanded that I feast. I began to question the ideas behind my everyday actions regardless of whether other people thought this was a relevant line of inquiry or not. Out of this confusion and curiosity, my AP Research paper on the nature of open-mindedness as an intellectual virtue in epistemology emerged. Maybe there was someone who had successfully revealed the “truth” of Lolita in all it’s ugliness, someone who had pushed past all Lolita ’s beauty and emerged with a final knowledge of it. It was late December and the snow was gently falling outside. I sat in an armchair in front of a wood fire with a cup of tea and read. I read for hours until my skin stung, my neck stiffened and my head ached. At night, I would draw myself a bath and lay in it until the water went cold and read. Self-confidence is something I have struggled very long and hard with. I used to worry that I would stand outâ€"especially in school. The views of my society are rather one dimensional towards being different. When reflecting that becoming part of this society would lead me to self-hatred, I have come to see Master as an example. The hardship he undergoes and the courage he portrays afterwards have inspired me to embrace who I am. The drive to conform to a standard so as to avoid standing out has become more and more apparent. However, the society depicted in the novel accepts such conformism to urvive, whereas the young generation can take individual freedom for granted. It impedes creativity and critical thinking, but these are essential in raising questions and seeing beyond the obvious. Instead, my peers choose to follow similar paths of education and career . Readers at the time of the book’s publication would have remembered these, their imaginations leaving Paris for the Polish countryside. The poem’s lyrical Alexandrines transported me back to Poland, especially when the words were softly murmured, huddled underneath blankets, the pages illuminated with a flickering flashlight.

Short Essay Guidelines

Short Essay Guidelines Like other fantasy writers who go by initials, J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, Rowling summons foreign phrases, literary devices, and language jokes, and transfigures them into clever names for her characters, objects, and places. The works of Tolkien and Lewis reflect their authors’ knowledge of philology, but can veer into pretentiousness. Rowling seems to want as many readers as possible to share in the fun -- slogging through ancient Gobbledegook epics is not required. As a result of reading this book and the Meno, I have a much different perspective on how knowledge comes into being and how it is communicated, or in the case of my public education, not communicated. ” Every bit of art, knowledge, thought, and opinion has value and can change a person. If you really care about ideas, explaining why one is important is almost impossible because every idea intersects with and plays off of other ideas. For every book I read I find myself adding at least three more to my reading list, whether they inspired the author or were inspired by him. The most beautiful things in the world are ideas, constantly changing, altered by experience and learning. I am unable to say that any one book is important to me, all I can say is that Catch-22 is important to me today and hope to discover the book that will be important to me tomorrow. I find it very intriguing that with the right story and progression, anyone can be led to not only a deeper understanding of a subject but also a greater appreciation for one. Surreal Numbers follows a couple on vacation on an island. They find a rock with inscriptions written in Hebrew. We use these building blocks of math and numbers all of the time and yet we do not truly stop to think about what they are or why they work the way they do. I was one of those very people and I would be lying if I said that I fully appreciate math for what it is. Only through my own curiosity and self-motivated research have I learned to appreciate more than I had before. Surreal Numbers by Knuth helped me put what numbers are into more perspective. Being overtly anti-war could cause you and your message to be immediately dismissed by those that view an anti-war stance as anti-troop or anti-patriotic. The poor pay the price while the rich reap the benefit. I invite St. John’s to help me find that book, and perhaps I will be able to help someone else find their’s. War Satire as a sub-genre is of particular importance. The seriousness of war, literally life and death, makes it a subject people tend to develop core values around. Miss Rumphius was patient and listened to herself, and so could find her place by the sea. My mother read me Miss Rumphius regularly before bed and from the redheaded heroine’s delicate tale, I crafted not only my goals in life, but my approach to adulthood as well. It is a rather slim book, yet because of its density it takes awhile to read in order to understand what it says. In Plato’s Meno (thanks for sending!), Socrates posed an ingenious question to his student about how to double the area of a square. The student intuited that one would simply double the side lengths of the square but in reality that would quadruple the area of the square. The prompt for this essay was “Discuss a book that has particular significance for you. What effect does it have on what you think or how you think? It proceeds logically, then showing the recursive nature of numbers and how they build upon previous numbers. The beauty of this notion of sets is this idea that 0 is the origin of numbers. Specifically, let’s imagine that there were no elements in either the left or right set. Then the statement above about left elements and right elements would still be true as long as one of the sets has nothing. So you would start off with 0, and then you could get -1 and 1 by using 0 in the left or right set, and then it builds that way forever in both directions. Their first simple conclusion was that any number is the pair of sets to the left and right of that number. The inscription stated that any element of the left set is not greater than or equal to an element of the right setâ€"a very simple idea upon which to build a number system. After some rough translation and a lot of thought, they realize the slab talks about the logic process of classifying numbers. Neither of the two are mathematicians but they take upon the task and try to glean everything they can from the inscriptions. Somehow, I found the way this scenario was presented to be engaging and allowed me to be drawn into the story.

How To Write A Great Admission Essay

How To Write A Great Admission Essay It certainly wasn’t enough to convince them to abandon their political identities, but it did have them absorbing ideas that they wouldn’t have entertained for a second if those ideas hadn’t been couched in wit. With the increasing division caused by social media’s ideological bubbles, satire has become a necessary means to provoke thought and conversation outside of one’s normal exposure. My senior year, my class was assigned Kafka’s Metamorphosis. My peers neglected the reading, doing only what they had to do to maintain decent grades. I came to class having read the story and enjoyed it. Merriam-Webster defines satire as “trenchant wit, irony, or sarcasm used to expose and discredit vice or folly.” Catch-22 clearly fits within this definition. However, I find this definition lacking, good satire should hold up a fun-house mirror to society to accentuate its problems and perhaps offer hope for the future. Any pessimist can simply expose and discredit vice and folly. Even calling something “vice or “folly” discredits it. To make a reader care, an author must place an earnest heart within their satire and at least hint that we can do better. I want to spend the rest of my life learning as much I can, because getting a diploma without expanding your mind is like saving a receipt for something you don’t own. I know too many people who want to silence their opponents instead of understanding them. I want a safe space for inquiry, not a safe space for ignorance. I know too many people who are content with limited knowledge and are discontent with limited possessions. I want to expose myself to as many ideas and viewpoints as possible, and I want to be more than a consumer. This would place satire in the realm of speculative fiction, the genre that includes science fiction and fantasy. When I was a freshman in high school, The Colbert Report debuted. Attending a religious school in rural Missouri, most of the faculty and students were rather conservative. They weren’t stupid; they knew the joke was on them, but it was funny enough that they watched the show and read the books. This has given me unique experience both in practice with writing analytical papers on a text, as well as practice with reading and discussing a text in a deeper way. This experience will not only be beneficial to me in discussion, but will hopefully raise the quality of a seminar for the class as a whole. The small enrollment size of as well as the overall approach to education makes St. John’s the ideal place for me to extend my positive experience of high school into the college setting. St John’s advertises itself as the school for readers and thinkers, people who want more than a degree. I know too many people whose only hope for college is to earn a diploma, and if they can do it without learning or growing, even better. We have put up walls around ourselves and entrenched our ideas, ready for war. Satire is an ideological Trojan Horse, and, when used well, a powerful sneak attack on ignorance. I thought about these things constantlyâ€"while brushing my teeth, doing chores, and driving to school. When I think about my principles, I think about how I aspire to the humility of Helen Burns and the resolution of Jane Eyre and the stoicism of St. John. But more than anything, I would like to live my life thoughtfully. When I think back, my favorite memories and my moments of greatest esteem are not those when I was victorious, but when I was thoughtful. I treasure the philosophical debates I’ve had with friends, the snow days spent reading in bed, the essays I labored over until they were a source of pride. And I am running out of clean white space.” This is what I wish to be, I do not want to pretend to that kind of edifice, but rather be met every day by surprise. It is that surprise that I can see in the community at St. John’s. I imagine life there will be four years of running out of clean white space. My grandfather’s love for art shows the significance of individualismâ€"a subject very dear to me. Unlike my classmates, I see books as worlds I can get lost in. I saw a statement about our significance in the world. A book will occupy my thoughts and conversation for a period of time but Lolita awakened a violent response- this is what I have to do, for the rest of my life. I have to analyze great literature and live in its questioning. My experience with Lolita informed my entire way of thinking. It taught me that there is no ending to a conversation, and no meaning without conversation. Martin Amis described this experience best, in his introduction to and essay on Lolita, “Clearly, these are not a scholar’s notes, and they move towards no edifice of understanding or completion.

Teen Wrote His College Admission Essay On Burrito Bowls

Teen Wrote His College Admission Essay On Burrito Bowls Rowling’s incorporation of Latin, the foundation of many modern languages, lends the spells more universality (who wants spells in English, anyway?) and adds to the realism of the series. Surreal Numbers follows a couple on vacation on an island. They find a rock with inscriptions written in Hebrew. After some rough translation and a lot of thought, they realize the slab talks about the logic process of classifying numbers. An easy focus of Rowling’s accessible wordplay are the spells. Usually a crafted mix of Latin and English, their verbalization sounds “magical” but still allows readers to suss out a guess as to the spell’s purpose. As a high school Latin student, I find this especially impressive. The students’ intellectual freedom lived on outside the classroom, inspiring our discussions of the readings over breakfast, during our afternoon free period, and during our evening group meetings. At seven o’clock the first evening, I was treated to my first seminar, and I fell in love with the school as well as its location. We discussed Herodotus’s description of the Battle of Thermopylae. Our tutor, Ms. Shukla, posed the question, “Is bravery reasonable? Not only that, for me, saying aloud my ideas helps me to better understand and clarify my thoughts, and thus myself. Kierkegaard and St. John’s are attractive for similar reasons. Either/Or ends with the statement, “Only the truth which edifies is truth for you.” A St. John’s student, Alec Bianco, shared how his music tutor commended him for trying to live musically throughout his life. St. John’s is appealing because I will get to read some of my favorite texts for a second time, as well as many new works. My favorite aspect of studying at St. John’s was the environment of free discussion. I love that teachers and students alike go by the simple formal address. This practice helps to foster an atmosphere of respect and equality in the classroom, giving students the confidence to take intellectual risks. I loved reading so closely and spending the time discovering Archimedes’ theories. At school I would have despised the lesson about water displacement but when I was given the actual works by Archimedes and had to follow the logic on my own it made sense. During the tutorial I loved how the tutor went line by line asking questions for us to discuss and I loved drawing out the diagrams. J.K. Rowling clearly saw her application of appellations not as a burden, but an opportunity to enrich the story and world she had created and expand its reach. She leaves it to the readers to discover or concoct an explanation for why wizards shout bastardized Latin phrases to cast spells, stick their heads in fireplaces to chat with friends, and send letters via owl. I have already read some of the books in the curriculum once, and so now I will be able to ‘read a book,’ during my second round of reading and discussion at St. John’s. My junior year in particular was my most interesting round of humanities. It focused entirely on Greek works, starting with Homer and the playwrights, transitioning into Thucydides, and then on to Plato and Aristotle. I enjoyed reading and discussing these works very much. There is an understanding at St. John’s that accumulating knowledge is not the end, but rather, being edified by truth. The process begins with the questions and reflections required by a St. John’s. education, the kind of education I aspire to have. And so, I aspire to honestly pursue truth at St. John’s College. What excites me about St. John’s the most is that I have some previous exposure and that familiarity will improve both my understanding of these texts as well as my ability to discuss them. ” My fellow students and I talked more quickly than I could jot down notes, and I left the classroom feeling more energized and awake than I had two hours before. On our way back to Murchison, my dorm mates and I compared notes on what we had discussed in our different seminars and talked about Leonidas and the Spartans until lights-out. When I went to the Summer Academy program last summer in Santa Fe, I found myself most looking forward to the math and science tutorials. While some others groaned that it was time to do our Archimedes reading for the next day, I excitedly isolated myself in the back of the library. However, through my entire high school life, I was not allowed to have a conversation in classes. Being quiet was the unspoken rule of manner and etiquette, where the dominance of the teacher to teach and submission of student to learn by observation was naturally accepted by all members of every class.

10 Tips For Writing A Great College Admission Essay

10 Tips For Writing A Great College Admission Essay By the time I entered high school, I could converse fluently with both my French and Spanish teachers. These experiences continue to shape and inform my desire to balance the arts and sciences by studying linguistic anthropology before enrolling in medical school. This fall, I visited the 40 Acres and immediately noticed a striking difference. My classmates were behind in their education and far below my grade level, so the teachers focused most of their time on them. I suffered greatly when I switched back into mainstream schooling. Now, it was my classmates who raced through their work. I was thrown, unprepared, into India’s rigorous education system. I struggled with constructing angles and balancing chemical equations. They also do a nice job of describing how their current college has a low ceiling and will not allow them to achieve their long-term goals. They’ve done their homework by supplying a few informative “Why UT” statements concerning student organizations and professors to help reviewers imagine how this student might contribute to the Forty Acres. I also pursued an internship in the accounting department of The Home Depot. Due to my family’s dire financial situation, I initially wanted to pursue a degree in business and finance solely to be more financially secure and allow me the opportunity to raise my own family someday. I took several business-related classes in high school and college. Like many of my classmates, I spent most of my high school years working tirelessly in hopes of attending a prestigious university. With each rejection letter, I wasn’t sure any university would admit me. I questioned the point of studying so long for my SAT and ACT and taking a few AP courses that didn’t particularly interest me. Reluctantly, I submitted the deposit to my safety school. Since they are applying to a non-STEM program with a 4.0, it isn’t necessary for this applicant to discuss their grades or relevant coursework. My goal has always been to transfer to UT and earn a degree in finance. My decision to attend Collin stemmed from my mediocre grades in high school â€" I wanted a fresh start at a college close to home. Though I was accepted at a few well-ranked Texas public universities, I had higher aspirations. I felt that I could improve my grade point average while completing prerequisite courses transferable anywhere. Nearly every other student I came across wore burnt orange; people walked confidently and actually socialized on campus. There seemed to be a school spirit that was conspicuously absent at UNT. I lived at home allowing me to save money, help my family, and continue working at my job. It seems to me that to be a Longhorn means to be a leader. To be that which “changes the world.” I don’t feel a similar sense of purpose and community at UH, and feel the path to being leader lies in Austin. With the experiences I gained from my descent into Houston’s philanthropic heart, I intend to hone my dream to be the leader of change that UT trains all its students to be. For the first time, I saw theoretical concepts come to life as I helped facilitate vendor payment methods and profitable product pricing. The chance to interact with higher level financial managers gave me exposure to strategic decision making and contingency planning. Before my board exams, I completed additional work on my own and solved about 70 papers in preparation. Personal Essay For Admission

Personal Essay For Admission On average for a five-paragraph essay, I write around 1, words. For an eight paragraph essay, I write around 2,000-2,600 words on the document. Keep in mind your quotes too, you should have one quote per paragraph or two . It really is up to the person though, I have a buddy who writes considerably less than I do, but is able to get his point across. What you’re taught is often a general rule to shoot for, not a rule set in concrete. Your teacher felt that 7 paragraphs was a good number for the essays you wrote for her, but it doesn’t always have to be that way. My teachers always taught by eight paragraph essays, but five-paragraph essays normally lie precedent to the more advanced or larger essays. the general rule is that 3 paragraphs are minimum for an essay. For example, if you are writing an essay on childhood development and exposure to technology, you will want to look into the physical, psychological and cognitive developmental effects of tech on kids. When you research this topic, you will find that there are contrasting points of view and researchers have identified several physical, developmental, and psychological effects of technology use in children. In its simplest form, an essay can consist of three paragraphs with one paragraph being devoted to each section. Proponents of the five paragraph essay say that the body text should consist of three paragraphs, but in reality, it’s fine to write more or fewer paragraphs in this section. There is no firm rule that says an essay needs to have a set number of paragraphs, but an essay must be a minimum of three paragraphs. You shouldn’t stumble over words or phrases when you read your essay out loud. Reading your essay with fresh eyes will help you be more objective about your writing. i referred this all things about how to attend interview for job purpose this is very useful to all the post graduate as well as under graduate students and also me. Narrative essays are often the closest thing to pieces of journalism. If you master the narrative essay, then you are likely well on your way to being a successful journalist. Ask them whether or not they learned those things from your essay. It’s best not to offend them or make them feel uncomfortable. Sometimes, applicants write about obstacles they’ve overcome or illicit/illegal topics including arrest, sexual experiences, drugs, and alcohol. In a few cases, these topics have been addressed effectively. But for the most part, it’s better to avoid subjects that could reflect poorly on your judgment and morals. Ultimately, your essay will be evaluated on the information you present, not on the number of paragraphs in the essay. Early in your academic life, teachers and lecturers may give you both a structure for your essay and a guideline on how long each part of the essay should be. After all, if the teacher is allocating 80 marks for content in total and you can see 50% of the mark relates to a certain part of the essay, then 50% of your essay’s words should be devoted to that section. Assuming five psychological effects have been identified, you can assume you’ll need to write five paragraphs if you are going to write a relatively in-depth essay. So, no matter how short your essay is, you should still need 3 paragraphs. If you are really for some reason writing a 100 word essay, then you should have one short sentence for both your introduction and conclusion. Paragraphs structure information into sub-topics, and they make your work easier to read and understand thanks to the structure they provide. With careful advance planning, you’ll be able to work out more or less how many paragraphs you need to complete your essay. There are a lot of people who say an essay should be five paragraphs, but it’s an extremely limiting rule, and unless you’ve been instructed to write a five paragraph essay, there’s no reason to stick to it. This master template can be used for short argumentative essays, long argumentative essays, complicated argumentative essays, and straightforward ones. It has additional sections to add more information, such as an extended background or an approach/methods section. Top 10 Tips For College Admissions Essays

Top 10 Tips For College Admissions Essays Do write in your own style and using your own words. Take the time to make sure your essay is something you’re proud of. Do provide new information that is not on your application. Stay honest, and if you have a misfortunate story to tell, share it too. This will increase the level of readers’ liking for your personality. Give yourself at least a week to write the essay and don’t postpone. Try to break your work into several parts and devote some time to writing your essay daily. He holds a BA in Psychology from Florida International University and an MA in Education from Georgia Southern University. You might be tempted to try to make the admissions officer who is reading your essay laugh. Humor is a great way to make friends or break the ice with someone new, but you should try not to rely on it in your admissions essay. For example, maybe you're a creative thinker, or a great problem-solver. Emphasize this in your essay by writing about a time that those qualities helped you in your day-to-day life. Do tell a story in an interesting and engaging way. Don’t just relay the facts, but pretend you are sitting in a coffee shop talking to a friend. Don’t repeat what is found elsewhere in your application, unless you’re adding pertinent information to round it out. A particularly critical “do” is to make sure that your essay stays on point. Applicants will sometimes digress, then fall in love with their digression and not be willing to cut it. Five hundred or less words isn’t much, so be sure that the essay remains focused on fully answering all aspects of the prompt, as they are asked. One “don’t” that I think is particularly important is to resist the urge to sell yourself. During middle school and high school, my enthusiasm for music and performing accelerated in tandem with my talent. In addition to pursuing instrumental music, I began singing in theatre and in an a cappella group. Eerily similar to the college application process, there were many qualified donor applicants. Do understand the mission of the school and how you will fit in. Do not embellish your essay or have someone else write it for you. Do not go over the word count â€" make it concise and smart. There are many do’s and don’ts regarding the college application essay. Choosing one donor from the pool of applicants was an insurmountable task for my mom until she realized there was an essay buried in the back of each profile. After reading my donor’s essay, she chose him because he spoke so eloquently about his passion for music and the arts. Think of some meaningful or extraordinary events that turned your life upside down and keep writing them. Your essay also shouldn't just repeat things that you've already listed elsewhere on your application. Tell the admissions officer something they can't learn about you from the other paperwork you've filled out. It's okay to expand on points you only mentioned in passing in other parts of the application, but make sure you are adding new information and presenting it in an engaging, creative way. You have no way of knowing what the admissions officer's sense of humor is like, and you don't want to run the risk of a joke falling flat or, even worse, offending someone. Once you've brainstormed a list of ideas, choose one as the theme of your essay. Focusing on one theme helps keep your essay organized and to the point. Like any essay, the college admissions essay should have a clear thesis that summarizes your main ideas and presents your theme in an engaging way. Essays that state, “No one could possibly be better qualified for your program than me,” or some variation of that, risk a backlash from Admissions Directors. Well, I’ll be the judge of that.” Instead, illustrate why you are so well qualified and let readers come to that conclusion themselves. We always aim to provide you with an outstanding service and a great admissions essay.

What Is Admission Essay?

What Is Admission Essay? Even though I had friends, writing, and therapy, my strongest support was my mother. I was six when I first refused/rejected girl’s clothing, eight when I only wore boy’s clothing, and fifteen when I realized why. When gifted dresses I was told to “smile and say thank you” while Spiderman shirts took no prompting from me, I’d throw my arms around the giver and thank them. The insufferable stench fills my nostrils and crushes my confidence. I'm momentarily taken aback, unable to understand how I went wrong when I followed the recipe perfectly. Most importantly, my family has taught me an integral life lesson. Nothing felt right, a constant numbness to everything, and fog brain was my kryptonite. I paid attention in class, I did the work, but nothing stuck. I felt so stupid, I knew I was capable, I could solve a Rubik’s cube in 25 seconds and write poetry, but I felt broken. I realize I choreograph not for recognition, but to help sixty of my best friends find their footing. The rollout plan for the iTaylor is to introduce it to the theater market. My goal is to use performance and storytelling to expose audiences to different cultures, religions, and points of view. Perhaps if we all learned more about each other's lifestyles, the world would be more empathetic and integrated. The chaos of the show becomes distant, and I devote my time to bringing her relief, no matter how long it may take. I find what I need to treat her injury in the sports medicine training room. On the outside, I look like any smart phone, but when you open my settings and explore my abilities, you will find I have many unique features. After experiencing many twists and turns in my life, I’m finally at a good spot. I know what I want to do with my life, and I know how I’m going to get there. Learning how to wake up without my mom every morning became routine. My whole life has been others invading my gender with their questions, tears signed by my body, and a war against my closet. Fifteen years and I finally realized why, this was a girl’s body, and I am a boy. Finally, after an additional seventy-two hours, the time comes to try it. I crack the seal on the bottle, leaning over to smell what I assume will be a tangy, fruity, delicious pomegranate solution. I didn’t realize she would be the first of many patients I would tend to in this training room. Since then, I’ve launched a sports medicine program to provide care to the 500-person choir program. Laughter fills the show choir room as my teammates and I pass the time by telling bad jokes and breaking out in random bursts of movement. Overtired, we don’t even realize we’re entering the fourth hour of rehearsal. This same sense of camaraderie follows us onstage, where we become so invested in the story we are portraying we lose track of time. I was lost, I couldn’t see myself, so stuck on my mother that I fell into an ‘It will never get better’ mindset. On August 30th, 2018 my mom passed away unexpectedly. My favorite person, the one who helped me become the man I am today, ripped away from me, leaving a giant hole in my heart and in my life. The most important factor in my transition was my mom’s support. She scheduled me an appointment with a gender therapist, let me donate my female clothes, and helped build a masculine wardrobe. Freshman Admission Essays

Freshman Admission Essays Everyone belongs to many different communities and/or groups defined by shared geography, religion, ethnicity, income, cuisine, interest, race, ideology, or intellectual heritage. Choose one of the communities to which you belong, and describe that community and your place within it. I analyze why I think this essay works in The Complete Guide, Session 6. Frozen in disbelief, the chicken tries to make sense of her harsh words. Cautiously, it inches closer to the barrier, farther from the unbelievable perfection of the farm, and discovers a wide sea of black gravel. Stained with gray stones and marked with yellow lines, it separates the chicken from the opposite field. I started playing basketball, began working on a CubeSAT, learned to program, changed my diet, and lost all the weight I had gained. “All the food, the nice soft hay, the flawless red barn--maybe all of this isn’t worth giving up. She just wants to protect me from losing it all.” The chicken replays the incident again. A fissure in the chicken’s unawareness, a plan begins to hatch. The chicken knows it must escape; it has to get to the other side. I started to make new friends with more people at my school and was surprised to find out that 90% of their parents were divorced. Because we faced similar issues, we were able to support one and other, share tactics, and give advice. One of my friends, John, gave me advice on how to help my mother emotionally by showing her love, something I hadn’t been able to do before. My friends gave me a family and a home, when my own family was overwhelmed and my home was gone. After 14 years of living in a region destroyed by violence, I was sent away to boarding school in a region known for peace, Switzerland. That year my father was found guilty and imprisoned for the charges related to his Army support contract. I felt as if I was Edgar in Shakespeare’s King Lear and this could not get worse, but yet it did. Saudi Arabia in the 2000s wasn’t the most ideal place to grow up. As with rock-paper-scissors, we often cut our narratives short to make the games we play easier, ignoring the intricate assumptions that keep the game running smoothly. Like rock-paper-scissors, we tend to accept something not because it’s true, but because it’s the convenient route to getting things accomplished. We accept incomplete narratives when they serve us well, overlooking their logical gaps. Other times, we exaggerate even the smallest defects and uncertainties in narratives we don’t want to deal with. In a world where we know very little about the nature of “Truth,” it’s very easyâ€"and temptingâ€"to construct stories around truth claims that unfairly legitimize or delegitimize the games we play. The chicken--confused, betrayed, disturbed--slowly lifts its eyes from the now empty ground. For the first time, it looks past the silver fence of the cage and notices an unkempt sweep of colossal brown and green grasses opposite its impeccably crafted surroundings. I was always scared of terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda. My school was part of the US Consulate in Dhahran, and when I was in the 8th grade it was threatened by ISIS. I began spending more time in our garage, carefully constructing planes from sheets of foam. A cold December wind wafts a strange infusion of ramen and leftover pizza. On the wall in the far back, a Korean flag hangs besides a Led Zeppelin poster. I found purpose balancing the fuselage or leveling the ailerons to precisely 90 degrees. I loved cutting new parts and assembling them perfectly. But at times I still had to emotionally support my mom to avoid sudden India trips, or put my siblings to bed if my parents weren’t home at night.

The Cambridge-MIT Exchange

The Cambridge-MIT Exchange Heres the long-awaited guest blog entry on the Cambridge-MIT Exchange (CME)! For background on the program, check out the CME website. CME is MITs flagship junior year abroad program, allowing MIT students to matriculate as a full student for a year at Cambridge University in Cambridge, England. Read on for Amandas experience A Year at Cambridge A guest blog by Amanda Frye, MIT 06 Spending a year at Cambridge has been an incredibly wonderful experience, although there have been a few difficult moments. I remember a few years ago, when I was a freshman at MIT, I thought, I would never do a program like that. I would hate to leave MIT for a year. There are things that I have missed about MIT. Ive missed friends, social opportunities, the Shakespeare Ensemble that I did many theatrical productions with. However, I know now that next year I will be just as homesick for the friends Ive made here and the team that Ive rowed with for our college crew. Seeing another academic system, one where much more emphasis is placed on long-term retention of learning, has been a good experience. I think in some ways Ive been able to develop a healthier lifestyle here at Cambridge, one where I go to bed early and wake early to go out on the river and row. My friends here constrain their work to 9-5 Monday through Friday, and they use the evenings and the weekends to go out to pubs or formal halls (formal dinners where students and professors dress up in evening clothes and have a three course meal). In general, being at an academic institution with over 800 years of tradition gives you a different sort of feeling. I hope that I will be able to use some of these experiences next year when I return to MIT to make my time there more productive. Of course, you are all trying to decide whether you should come to MIT or not. I would say that the Cambridge-MIT exchange is a great reason to go to MIT, whether or not you plan on studying abroad your junior year (and of course I would encourage any of you to study abroad your junior year!). Having classmates, and friends, that came from Cambridge University was a really neat experience my sophomore year, and I think that I was more likely to meet foreign students at MIT than at other colleges. The reason? The exchange program is really excellent because it integrates the foreign student (either from Cambridge or MIT) completely into their new university. From what Ive seen, this is an unique experience on an exchange programs. Many American universities send students on exchange for only a semester, which would never really give you a good feeling for what Cambridge, where everything is organized on a year-long schedule, is like. I know other exchange students who were placed in housing completely made up of exchange students, isolating them from meeting British students. The MIT program put me in a college just like any other Cambridge student, and the majority of my friends here are British. Finally, we have had amazing support from MIT and from Cambridge, with staff at both institutions asked to make sure we are happy and doing well. Even if you dont go to MIT or go on the exchange program, do try to get over to England sometime! Ive really enjoyed going to London, even just for the day, to see amazing theater, eat at really nice restaurants, visit tourist sites like the London Eye, St. Pauls Cathedral, and Samuel Johnsons house, and do some shopping in some of the numerous markets. In Cambridge there are lots of fun things to do as well, like punting down the Cam (the river here), seeing the Kings College Choir sing, and visiting the various colleges, trying to find the areas used in the Harry Potter film. If you do come, though, just make sure not to wear anything referring to Oxford theres a bit of a rivalry here! Financial Report of Emaar Properties - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 5 Words: 1448 Downloads: 3 Date added: 2017/06/26 Category Finance Essay Type Argumentative essay Did you like this example? Financial Report: Emaar Properties Introduction The purpose of this report is to present from the consultants point of view a challenge faced by a real estate investment firm located in the United Arab Emirates or UAE. For the purpose of this study, two firms were chosen because financial investment information was available from the company investor relations department web sites. These investment reports shed light on not only on the competitive nature of this sector but also the volatility involved with such ventures. The competition is fierce for large and small ventures alike. Much of the firms success is leveraged against how well the property will be accepted by the public. Performing a financial ratio analysis allows the consultant to delve into the core of the organisation and discover areas of health and illness. A firm called Emaar Properties will be the main focus and analysis for this report, however, another firm with presence in the region was also chosen to support the argument that different firms use different ta ctics to gain market share. This firm is called Union Properties. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Financial Report of Emaar Properties" essay for you Create order Company Background Emaar Properties is an industry giant in the region. They are quickly becoming a global leader as the provider of premier lifestyles. It is a young company founded 1997 that have government partial ownership as investors. This organisation is not about just building homes but value-added, master-planned communities that the homebuyers full spectrum of lifestyle needs.[1] Challenge The challenge faced by the consultant with regard to Emaar Properties is how the organisation can remain at the top of their game with respect to investment in high-end resort lifestyle properties. Obviously this is an expectation of the Dubai citizen but the main challenge remains in continuing a unique, creative marketing campaign to present an all-encompassing lifestyle experience without tarnishing the conservative brand and mission of the company. This firm wants to embrace the notion of luxury fun but also must remain fixed in its overall value system. While other smaller real estate firms have broadened their goals to include most demographics with rent to own options, this firm remains entrenched with creating an elite approach to buying and promoting properties throughout the region, Middle East and North Africa. Solution The solution to the problem remains focused on the organisations intellectual teamwork or its people. How do you measure people and their creativity? How does one know if current marketing campaigns for successful properties are working and still plan to take the world by storm as Emaar continues projected momentum? This begins and ends with analysing previous annual reports to see where the company is best performing and if there are weak areas, how to improve performance. For the purpose of this task and quantifying this solution, Emaars 2007 Annual Report is available for perusal. Clearly something is going right for the organisation, as according to Ernest and Youngs report, the company grossed over $6.5 million in profit for 2007.[2] Property sales to customers exceeded $14 million for 2007.[3] Marketing including advertising for 2007 doubled since 2006 which shows increased need for the tool but also possible excessive, poorly engaged tactics? Further analysis is needed. Financial Analysis According to Pamela Peterson Drake the best way to assess for financial health begins with understanding if the firm is using its operating resources correctly. The consultant wants to ensure the firm is applying its assets in an efficient and profitable manner.[4] When assessing this for Emaar, one must also consider the different segments of the corporation or individual performance but also on a whole. One can apply a simple profitability ration, which will determine if the amount of income reflects accurately the amount of sales. For Emaar, the income out weighs the amount of sales by more than 2 to 1, which demonstrates a healthy and wealthy organisation. Traditionally if an organisation can calculate a ratio of 2 to 1 or assets versus obligations (in the form of expenses, risks etc.),[5] then this means the company will meet these bills, maintain an excellent credit rating and stock rating with extra for reinvestment or dividends for its investors. By examining this simply, the consultant can see a relationship forming between the amounts for sales with regard to marketing costs. To go further and more concrete, one would want to determine true net working capital to sales. One would subtract current assets from current liabilities but also divide this by the amount of sales. If this continues the trend of 2 to 1, then the company is healthy and can see a return on investment. How are other Real Estate Investment Companies in the region fairing? Upon investigation, there were a few real estate investment firms with information but few with investment information privy without formal request. Union Properties is much smaller than Emaar, both in scope and portfolio, but they are holding their own within a well-defined niche market. While their properties are also considered targeted at the wealthy and successful businessperson, they are opening up the market to new ways of affording such property. They have incorporated the credit option of rent-to-own in order to cater to other demographics. This evident in their earnings report because the year 2007 showed 16% more growth over 2006.[6] Also the firms profit increased by 11 percent or over AED 684 million.[7] Clearly the market is still hot but also this company is marketing to more people. Emaar SWOT Assessment SWOT stands for strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities. As a tool for identifying the well being of an organisation, this analysis offers key management teams tools for implementation of investment strategies for competitive edge in the marketplace. Strengths Its leaders and their focus on the overall mission of maintaining the highest quality product/service in the market with continual building of brand and reputation defines Emaar strengths. Weaknesses With conservative leadership behaviours come the criticisms that the firm is not embracing every customer as a potential loyal follower. Still this focus remains true to the mission of the organisation and its bread and butter. Opportunities As most of the world suffers through a recession, there are opportunities to be found out of others bad luck. The UAE is an oil rich nation where the economy is still strong despite the decrease in production and fall of barrel price. With this in mind, Emaar can continue building its luxury communities but also focus on other niche markets as an offshoot of the original mission. The focus can remain central on family and those values. The change in demographic to an upper class patron will allow for new relationships to flourish and ease in transition to other markets like Europe and North America. Threats Outside threats include the perceived negative image of the gulf state perpetuated by the Middle East conflicts of present. This limits outside investment but also deters Westerners from travelling to the area unless they have to. Continued portrayal of a positive moral image is important but also the company must remain aware of the financial crisis hurting other areas of the world. This may not be the best time to expose certain markets to such an elite product. Recommendations The consultant must be able to give financial advice for future investments in the corporation but also advice that is concrete to the situation. While it is important to perform ratio analysis, one must also see the full picture by researching, investigating all roles of decision-making especially with regard to future marketing tactics and presentation of image. It is important to remain aware of defining moments where change becomes a catalyst but also to remain proactive. Use common sense and communicate the full picture. Analysis Of The Story Three Little Words - 991 Words

Three Little Words Ashley is a young woman like many in today’s society born in 1985 to a single, teenage mother. However, her story is a success story. Therefore, she survived, although all odds were stacked against her. Due to her mother’s inability to provide for her, the Florida Foster Care System was her home from the tender age of 3 until her adoption at the age of twelve. During that decade, she resided in 14 different foster homes along with her brother. During this period, her brother and other children endured an abusive life which included beatings with a wooden paddle, starvation, made to drink homemade hot sauce, molestation and verbal abuse which led Ashley and her brother to attend a different school each time their foster home changed. She witnessed the tragedy of her uncle being shot and she experienced her own tragedy when thrown from a moving vehicle. This type of upbringing would lead one to believe that her life would not amount to anything and torn by the f act that she was not residing with her family. However, subconsciously, when she needed reassurance, her paternal mother’s words to her would always surface in her mind, â€Å"Sunshine, you’re my baby and I’m your only mother, but you must obey the one taking care of you but she is not your mama†. This was my first audio book project and it was surreal! Ashley’s appeared as though the she was reliving her childhood demons as well as the angelic portion of her life. Compare the techniques that Heckerling and Austen use to alert us to how we should view Cher and Emma Free Essays

Using the opening scenes of Clueless and the opening chapters of Emma, compare the techniques that Heckerling and Austen use to alert us to how we should view Cher and Emma. Both texts use various techniques to present the two heroines, Emma and Cher. Emma is presented to the responder as an omniscient text, presenting the responder with all the character’s opinions as well as Austin’s opinion, particularly concerning the social hierarchy of the era. We will write a custom essay sample on Compare the techniques that Heckerling and Austen use to alert us to how we should view Cher and Emma or any similar topic only for you Order Now We are first presented with Austin’s perspective in the opening chapter of the book, when Emma is described as â€Å"handsome, clever, and rich with a comfortable home and happy disposition†. As well as this submissive description the responder is also shown Emma’s faults as â€Å"having rather too much her own way, and a disposition to think a little too well of herself†. As a result of the text being presented majoritivly through third person creating an objective status, the responder is shown that Emma has selfish tendencies despite all her good intentions. This is demonstrated to the responder as the wedding of a friend, with whom Emma shared â€Å"the intimacy of sisters†, is described in the text as â€Å"a gentle sorrow†. Despite the happiness of Emma’s dearest friend, Miss. Taylor (now Mrs. Weston), Emma thinks only of herself and the unhappiness and emptiness that will be felt as a result of Miss Taylor’s absence in the Woodhouse’s home. The first paragraph sets the tone for the novel as the responder is forewarned of Emma having a crisis during the text, this is effectively projected by the inclusion of the word â€Å"seemed†. This shows the responder that Emma’s ‘perfect’ existence will be challenged throughout the novel, as her match making schemes fail with ominous (doomed) consequences. The description of Highbury shows the social status of Emma and her Father, â€Å"The Woodhouse’s were first in consequence there. All looked up to them. † The description of Emma is juxtaposed by the description of Mr. Knightley, â€Å"a sensible man about seven or eight-and-thirty†¦ a very old and intimate friend of the family†. This shows the composer’s intent to portray Emma as naive, young and self-orientated, as the two descriptions vary greatly as Mr. Knightley is portrayed as wise and â€Å"sensible†. The responder is further shown the father like figure of Mr. Knightley’s character when Austen tells that â€Å"Mr. Knightley, in fact, was one of the few people who could see faults in Emma Woodhouse, and the only one who ever told her of them†. The presence of Mr. Knightley in the first chapter and the inclusion of his disagreement with Emma over her involvement in the match of Miss Taylor and Mr. Weston, depicts to the responder Emma’s egocentric tendencies. The fact that Mr. Knightley, the wise and older character, implies that Emma merely â€Å"made a lucky guess†¦ likely to have done harm to yourself, than good to them, by interference†, influences the reader to view Emma as meddlesome and narcissistic (self-absorbed). Clueless is presented to the responder through a different medium, thus the composer, Amy Heckerling uses different techniques to portray the heroine, Cher. The main contrast between the opening chapters of Emma and the opening scenes of Clueless is the way in which the text is presented. Cher informs the responder as the main protagonist and narrator of the text. This allows the responder to empathise and affiliate a personal attachment with her, as they see only her perspective throughout the entire text.
